Beverly will demonstrate the art of botanical illustration done in color pencil, pen, and ink. The students will draw different species of flowers from bud to peak bloom. She will teach the students the Latin names and common names of the flowers they choose to illustrate.
Background
From 1976 to 1994, weaving was the dominant craft in Beverly’s life. She hand loomed costumed dyed silk and rayon scarves for boutiques and stores. She has also been known for her large fibrous masks woven in silk, raffia, sequins, pearls, and other materials Beverly began to seriously study flowers in 1991 and were soon after commissioned by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, to design an official T-shirt for the Philadelphia Flower Show. She was the first African American artist ever to design an official T-shirt for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society since it held its first flower show in 1829.
Beverly met Pat when she was a junior in High school. It was during that time that Beverly learned of ‘The Barn Studio’ and began attending workshops with Morris Blackburn, Oliver Grimley, Louis Sloan, Peter Pizzi, and Pat.
